Checking the Try Square

Check a NEW try square and EVERY TIME YOU DROP IT!
1 - Place try square against wood strip with heel facing left
and draw lines along each side of the blade.
2 - Reposition try square with the heel facing right and
blade touching original lines at the heel.
3 - Draw another set of lines each side of the blade.
4 - If the blade is true, the two sets of lines will coincide as shown on the left.
5 - If the blade is not true, the lines will diverge as shown (exaggerated) on the right.
6 - A light tap of the tip on the work bench should be
sufficient to correct the problem.
These errors generally occur when the try square is knocked
off the work table. Hence the advice to treat the tool with great care!
